Twos & Threes

Your two-year-old is beginning to make correlations between cause and effect. This is the perfect time to begin working on manners and social skills. Most two year olds have not yet acquired the skill of playing "with" another child. However they are constantly trying out new things and wondering if those things should be repeated.

At this stage it is important to provide a number of enriching new activities for the children on a daily basis. Toys must be changed out regularly to keep the little one's attention. This is the stage that we begin to transition the children into more of a structured schedule than the infants and toddlers. During "center time," children explore a variety of "centers" set up throughout the room to encourage specific skills. They are offered art experiences daily, and enjoy music and movement tremendously. The Two's begin to share "circle time" on a regular basis  (where both students and teachers sit cross-legged and interact with one another through songs and planned activities) and participate in "family style" meal times. This means that they learn to drink from a cup without a lid, pour their own milk and dish their own vegetables and fruits, developing each child's independence with the support of our teachers.

Outside play is also an important part of your child's day. The children go outside every day, twice a day, as long as it is 20 degrees or higher. Our outdoor classroom allows for bike riding, painting on easels, playing in the water table or sandbox, and climbing on a playstructure which is designed to work every muscle in their bodies.
