Wellness Policy
(These policies are taken from the Department of Children and Family Services regulation guide)
All children need updated physicals every two years. Immunizations need to be up to date for their age. Physical forms must be completed and turned in before admission.
The following conditions shall cause a child to be excluded from the center:
If director or daycare nurse feels child should be seen by child's doctor because of severity of illness, the child will not be allowed to return to daycare until seen by a doctor and given written clearance to return to daycare.
Note: If a child is sent home from daycare for any reason of illness they are not allowed to return the following day. The only exception to this rule is if sent home on Friday. If your child is sent home for illness on Friday, he/she may return to daycare on Monday providing that all symptoms are gone.
Medication Policy
Principle: Eastside Educational Center, Inc. will administer medication to children for whom a plan has been made and approved by the director. Because administration of medication poses an extra burden for staff, and having medication in the facility is a safety hazard, families should check with the child's physician to see if a dose schedule can be arranged that does not involve the hours the child is in the childcare facility. Whenever possible, the first dose of medication should be given at home to see if the child has any type of reaction. Parents are asked to arrange times of multiple doses in such a way that we do not find ourselves administering a medication during the first two hours of arrival, nor the last two hours before departure. Thus, the majority of medications are timed to be given only at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. (if two doses are given). If only one dose, we try to have the parent time it around noon. By standardizing the times as we have done, we find it easier to handle the process, as opposed to having a steady stream of children receiving medication all through the day. Parents or legal guardians may administer medication to their own child during the childcare day.
Procedure: The director will administer medication only if the parent or legal guardian has provided written consent, the medication is available in an appropriately labeled and stored container, and the facility has on file the written or telephone instructions of a licensed physician to administer the specific medication.
